Womans Circus 1991-1996, 2005-2006

In 1991 I established The Women's Circus, this project set a new bench mark in community and circus theatre. Initially I invited women who were survivors of sexual abuse to join. The company attracted women from a range of backgrounds and I developed a model for large disparate groups to work together that allowed individual input while still having decision making process's which weren't too elongated.

The visually narrative style I initiated at the Women's Circus forged new territory in Circus at this time. Other contemporary Circus companies of the time were still working with the more traditional three-minute act. Under my direction the Women's Circus carved a new style of performance with a unique mix of community participation, high quality circus theatre, and the use of non-traditional venues.
